Now let’s have a look at some of the most popular bridal dress shapes, and which will suit your body best

aline dress for our shape

A Line – With a fitted top, the skirt portion gets wider as it reaches the floor, creating a shape that looks sort of like an “A”

The A Line shape dress is the best dress choice for Pear shapes and hourglass figures, because it skims the bottom portion of your body without adding any bulk to your shape. This shape is also fantastic for apple shapes as it adds definition at the waistline, giving the illusion of a smaller waist. These gowns will keep everyone’s eyes on your slim upper body and give your waistline beautiful definition.

trumpet dress for your shape

Trumpet- For the most part, it will fit tightly to your body, but somewhere around mid thigh, the dress will begin to flare.

A Trumpet style dress is best for those of us with wide shoulders, these gowns are narrow through the waist and then flare out at the bottom. This shape will visually even you out, meaning your shoulders will look more proportional to the rest of your body because of the wide bottom of the dress.

Mermaid dress for your shape

Mermaid – This dress is fitted and curve-hugging but flares out at the bottom like a mermaids tail.

Like the Trumpet style, the Mermaid style dress suit inverted triangle shapes. However, they also look fabulous on hourglass figures, as they highlight your small waist and accentuate your hips and bust. Avoid Mermaid styles if you’re conscious of a tummy as there’s no room to hide anything in a mermaid style.

Ballgown - The top is fitted, but the skirt is poofy. Think of something a fairy-tale princess would wear

Much like the A line gown, ballgowns look fabulous on pear and hourglass figures. They also give fantastic shape to apple shapes, adding definition at the waist. If you’ve got great legs another lovely option is a tea length gown!

sheath dress for your shape

Sheath – A simple shape that is straight If you’re looking for something that’s formfitting but not skintight, this design is for you.

Square shaped brides look fantastic in empire and sheath gowns. The trick though with an empire gown is that it has to fit just right. If you get one that is too billowy or too loose you’ll end up looking heavier than you are. If you’re a square that needs a little more waist definition definitely go with a sheath over the empire.
